Mark
You have reached the personal profile page of Mark Beihoffer. If you feel you have reached this page in error, please hang up and dial again. This is a recording.
If, on the other hand, you have somehow managed to find this page because you are looking for Mark Beihoffer, trying to find information about Mark Beihoffer, or even if you are Mark Beihoffer, congratulations.
First off, it is pronounced BYE-hoff-ur. Not BEE-hoff-ur. Useful if you’re ever trying to impress me by introducing me to somebody.
Secondly, yes, I have many, many web sites or accounts on various web sites wherein I have left a trail of breadcrumbs over the years. Not very many of these lead to this particular site, though, so I am going to probably wonder if anyone will ever read this. But in case you were wondering, and you probably weren’t, my monikers are dragonfly_blue on Slashdot, Kuro5hin, and elsewhere, Dragonfly on Perlmonks, mbeihoffer here and there, and a whole bunch of names I’ve probably forgotten. In any case, you should probably go to mark.beihoffer.com if you want a more current version of what I’ve been up to lately.
I don’t spend a lot of time on the aforementioned sites these days, being somewhat too busy writing websites myself, creating themes, learning graphic design and typography, tinkering with CSS files, installing WordPress and other CMS’s for friends, clients, and family, and generally just doing my thing. I sometimes wish I had time to sit and read Slashdot, but then again, sometimes it’s better that I don’t.
Also, I don’t really blog much these days. I used to run a blog over at Dragonfly 7, but it’s gone now. It was fun while it lasted, though. The photo gallery got a lot of hits from schoolkids looking for “Pictures of the Arctic Tundra”. They typically felt that I was fraudulently tricking them into clicking on my site, and complained vociferously on my comments section about what a bastard I am for not doing their homework for them.
There is some truth to the tundra question, though. I sit here in my chilly design studio in Minneapolis, where it does indeed sometimes drop below zero for days or even weeks at a time. The studio is in the same space as my girlfriend Jenni’s business; she runs a letterpress printing and design studio called Lunalux. Rent is pretty cheap since I’m her boyfriend, and I think sometimes she doesn’t mind me hanging around here, although some days I end up just curling up on the couch for a nap instead of doing any real work.
My cousin Nick comes by here sometimes, too. He’s real handy to have around, always fixing stuff when it breaks, like the staircase and the towel rack and whatnot, which is a good tradeoff because I help fix his stuff when it breaks, too. We’re currently having a competition to see who can complain about the other person breaking more things; I’m winning so far, which is to say that because I don’t have quite as many things to break as he does, I therefore manage to break slightly less of them than he does.
We mostly do our unique little brand of repair work over at our other office space in Northeast Minneapolis, where he has converted half his duplex into a studio/workshop for audio recording, graphic design, and hardware hacking. We run the business out of there, too, although I tend to split my time up between Lunalux and Northeast. There are pros and cons, like the fact that my fancy-schmancy dual-screened Linux workstation is up in Northeast, but my laptop docking station is in Lunalux, but it’s probably a good thing overall that I’m forced to choose where I spend my time in a carefully balanced way.
I used to do a lot of work downtown, in my client’s offices, but lately I’ve been focusing my efforts on doing more web design and programming projects and less on-site technical support types of things. Also, I just don’t have many clients for the on-site work any more. I’m not sure why that is, but I’m ok with it. I don’t really like wearing a tie much.
Anyway, but enough about me. What’s your deal? How’d you find this? Maybe you know me from junior high or something. I dunno. Leave a comment and I’ll try and get back to you, although I’m super busy and honestly may forget to check for new comments occasionally.
I googled you because I miss you. Sometimes a few breadcrumbs are better than nothing.
